Basalt
Basalt has a long history in construction and architecture as pavers and dimension stone. Basalt was used as stadium seating and street pavers throughout the Roman Empire. Today, basalt is commonly used as crushed aggregate in construction projects. Crushed basalt is used for road base, concrete aggregate, asphalt pavement aggregate, railroad ballast, filter stone in drain fields. But, basalt is also used in basalt fiber manufacturing. Basalt fiber is an environmentally friendly high-tech product. It is widely used in military and civilian fields. Basalt fibers will not react with any of the components of concrete, and have a very high chemical resistance. Compared to other fibers such as S-glass, carbon, or aramids used in concrete, they are also considered to be inexpensive.
